Forging Mile Ybbsitz ("Schmiedemeile")
Handicraft
Description
Ybbsitz has many sides and numerous facets. However, blacksmithing has left its mark on the town like no other guild.
The three-kilometre-long Blacksmith's Mile has become a backbone to which the town and its inhabitants are aligned.
A total of eight milestones from the FeRRUM-welt des eisens to the Einöd Hammer tell hikers about the processes in pre-industrial times, i.e. the former life of blacksmiths and grinders.
The starting point of the Blacksmith's Mile is marked by the "Ferraculus", an iron man made of stainless steel, who looks towards the town center and at the same time into the course of the Blacksmith's Mile.
If you walk along the Blacksmith's Mile, you come to the Fahrngruber Hammer. In this blacksmith's workshop, which has been in existence since the 16th century, you can either become a blacksmith yourself on one of the hobby forging courses or watch the blacksmith at work during one of the forging demonstrations. At the next milestone, the Eybl hammer mill, you can watch the tail hammer at work.
The impressive centerpiece of the Blacksmith's Mile is the Experience Bridge, a metal 25 m arch bridge that spans the Prollingbach waterfall. Also worth seeing is the loop building on the adventure bridge.
The eighth and final milestone presents one of the most beautiful remaining hammer mills in its typical style. The building is still used as a blacksmith's workshop today.
Milestones:
- FeRRUM-world of iron

Children's program at the forging mile:
Hiking along the Blacksmith's Mile is made more interesting for children by the puzzle about forging and crafts. The puzzle flyers are available from the FeRRUM Ybbsitz tourist office.
