Mittersee

Ponds, lakes and springs

Description

Approx. 1 hour's walk from Seehof Castle on the eastern shore of Lake Lunz, you will find the idyllic Mittersee. This wonderful hiking destination is located at around 766 meters above sea level and is easily accessible via a moderately ascending forest path.

Despite its shallow depth, the crystal-clear mountain lake barely reaches temperatures above 7 degrees Celsius all year round. This is due to the permanent flow of the Seebach stream and the impermeable layers of rock, which are the reason for the formation of this enchanting natural gem.

This breathtaking place of natural power invites you to pause and take a deep breath. The peaceful lake, nestled in the tranquil panorama of the wild and romantic natural scenery, offers a very special destination for pleasure hikers and plenty of scenic rest stops to enjoy a snack.

Only the impressive, 60m-high Ludwigfall not far away interrupts the tranquil surroundings and shortly afterwards the "roaring bull" - an underground waterfall whose roar reminds the people of Lunz of the roar of a raging bull on its way to the nearby Obersee. It is well worth discovering as part of the 3 Lakes Tour.
