Oisberg

The Oisberg, also known as Bauernboden, is a 1,405-meter-high mountain in the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria. There is a summit cross on its peak.

Location: Lower Austria, Mostviertel, Ybbstal Alps, Northern Limestone Alps

The Oisberg lies in the territory of three municipalities: Hollenstein an der Ybbs, Opponitz and St. Georgen am Reith.

Its forested ridge stretches over a length of nine kilometers. Elevations on the main ridge include the Hahnköpfl (1,224m), Glitzenkopf (1,328m), Rotmauer (1,330m), Schneekogel (1,373m), Kleiner Schneekogel (1,344m) and Hühnerkogel (1,345m), while the ridge ends at the Kothaufenberg (1,000m).

The forests on the Oisberg are largely used for forestry, which is why the mountain is criss-crossed by many forest roads. Alpine pastures can be found in the eastern part of the Oisberg, in the ridge area and north of it where the Annahütte is located.

Hike to the Bauernboden

Starting from the Lucken farmhouse in Opponitz, the hiking tour leads to the Bauernboden. The route follows a forest path to the Buchberg farmhouse. The trail then switches to a hunter's trail and leads through steeper terrain and a beautiful mixed forest to the alpine pasture at the Annahütte, from where it continues to the Schneekogel, the highest point of this tour. Tips in the surrounding area

• Guests can bathe in the crystal-clear waters of the Ybbs at the Flussbad in Hollenstein an der Ybbs. There is a children's area for young visitors to splash around in. Snacks and ice cream are available at the beach buffet.
• A tip for all those who would like to spend a little time out: the Grosshollenstein train station vacation home, a former train station, offers a perfect starting point for cycling tours and hikes in the region.
