Vom Zellerrain auf die Feldwiesalm

Description

The Zellerrain is a pass (1121 m) in the Ybbstal Alps to the west of Mariazell and lies on the border between Lower Austria and Styria. The Zellerrain is a popular starting point for an easy hike to the Feldwiesalm. This is one of the largest alpine pastures in Lower Austria and is also easy to reach from Taschelbach.

Longer tours range from the Gemeindealpe to the Feldwiesalm with a descent to the Erlaufsee, but the hike from Lackenhof over the Riffelsattel and then on through the "Türndlmäuer" is a little more challenging, but rewards you with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

Route description Vom Zellerrain auf die Feldwiesalm

Starting from the parking lot across from the Zellerrain Inn, we hike up the gravel road toward Höchbauer. Then, to the right of the farmhouse, we head up a slightly steeper meadow, where we’re already rewarded with a wonderful view. After a short walk through a wooded area, we reach open alpine pastures, where we keep to the left, following the long-distance hiking trail or the blue trail markers. After about three-quarters of an hour, we reach the Feldwiesalm, where we treat ourselves to a delicious snack.
