Ötscherschutzhaus

Located in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park on the Großer Ötscher (1,893 m), the Ötscher Mountain Hut (1,418 m) is a very popular starting point for hikes to the summit or into the Ötschergräben. The shelter is located directly at the summit station of the Großer Ötscher double-chairlift. Overnight stays are available in double or shared rooms, as well as in an affordable dormitory. Members of alpine clubs enjoy a discounted rate.

Hut sleeping bags are required. Hut sleeping bags can be rented for a fee of €5 per person per night. A hearty breakfast is included with your overnight stay!

Mountaineers prefer the Rauhen Kamm ridge on the east side of the Ötscher. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace should choose Lackenhof as their starting point. For a leisurely ascent, we recommend the Großer Ötscher double chairlift; it takes you directly to the Ötscher mountain hut.

- From Lackenhof on foot to the hut, walking time approx. 1½ hours
- From Gösing, walking time approx. 5–6 hours
- From the Erlaufklause, walking time approx. 4 hours
- From Wienerbruck through the Ötschergräben and over the Riffelsattel (1,283 m) to the hut; walking time approx. 5 hours
- Access: Großer Ötscher double chairlift from Lackenhof to the hut, ride time approx. 10 minutes; operating hours listed under Ötscherlifte

Even in winter, the Ötscherschutzhaus is a popular stop for skiers and ski tourers.

Hut hours: Open daily from July 4 to October 18, 2026; closed on Thursdays and Fridays starting September 1.
