Details for: Naturparke & Mendlingtal

Brief description

Water, followed by lots of forest in the nature park and a combination of both steeped in history in the experience. Lots of variety through the Eisenwurzen and in the Ybbstal.

Description

The tour starts comfortably on the Ybbstal cycle path upstream to Hollenstein. Here, turn right through the village into the sand ditch towards Gamsstein. In no time at all, an idyllic, secluded atmosphere, getting steeper and steeper up to the Promau with a beautiful clearing and rest area. A partly steep, winding descent leads down into the Mendlingtal valley and onwards via a short, steep counter-climb to Lassing.

The route descends to Göstling and continues along the Ybbstal cycle path via Kogelsbach to St. Georgen am Reith. From here, the route now climbs 3km with a maximum gradient of 10% up to the large Kripp and over an almost 5km long descent (max. 16%) back to Opponitz.

While in Hollenstein, take a look inside the "Schafkäs-Express"... an old railroad car with a rich history.
