Details for: Waidhofen - Forsteralm

Brief description

Via the Buchenberg, the Glatzberg (magnificent view), the Hochseeberg with its centuries-old Seeberg chapel and the Amstettner huts to the small Forsteralm ski area.

Description

In Untergrasberg, you can take a special break in a rustic inn dating back to 1899. The steep ascent to the summit of the Glatzberg is recommended due to its views of wonderful natural landscapes. However, the steep ascent can also be avoided. The centuries-old Seeberg chapel is particularly worth a visit and is a real gem, thanks to its upheld tradition. The Hochseeberg impresses with its untouched nature and alpine character. Due to its length, the route is recommended for fit hikers, but can be broken off at various points by less experienced hikers.

Route description Waidhofen - Forsteralm

From Waidhofen an der Ybbs, you walk through the Buchenberg Nature and Wildlife Park towards Untergrasberg. Then continue on NRW 208 to Obergrasberg. There you can choose between two paths. The somewhat more strenuous path leads over the Glatzberg, whose summit features the Glatzberg cross with a summit logbook. The hiking trail then leads over the Holzerbauernkreuz (branching option towards Atschreith) to Obermitterkogel (branching option towards Opponitz). Still along NRW 208 to Hochseeberg. Through the Seebachgraben, on hiking trail 57 to federal road 121 or over the Amstettner hut on the Forsteralm to Oberland towards Juttas Inn for a refreshment before the journey home. From Oberland, take the train back to Waidhofen. The described hike is only recommended for hikers in good shape due to its length. Since it is possible to break off at various points without difficulty (for example at Holzerbauernkreuz), the route can also be easily hiked by less experienced hikers.
