Description
From the pearl of the small Ybbs valley, the blacksmithing center Ybbsitz, the steep ascent begins on the asphalt road up to the Haselstein farm, where the real hiking trail starts. It goes nicely through the forest, alternating steeper and flatter, very quiet and already repeatedly with great views towards the Alpine foothills. Past the Haselstein wall where a Heimkehrerkreuz (return home cross) can be found, it goes steeply up a meadow section and then crosses the forest road repeatedly, reaching after about 2 hours the lookout tower right next to the Prochenberghütte at 1,123 m above sea level.
After the snack, continue a short distance to the summit cross and descend partly steeply on the west side of Prochenberg along a good hiking trail to the Mitterlehen farm and further towards Prollingtal. The last meters lead along the Schmiedemeile back to the town center.
