Spring hiking adventures

Hiking with spring air and blosson scents.

After winter, nature awakens to new life:
The sun once again blesses us with more light and energy, birds greet the day with cheerful songs, and gentle hills shine in a sea of colorful blossoms.

Gentle hills and a sea of white blooms

A special highlight in spring is the sight of the white-blossoming fruit trees, which can be admired along the Moststraße in April. In the Ybbstal Alps, the Panoramahöhenweg is perfect for experiencing this. Especially along the route from Waidhofen/Ybbs to St. Leonhard am Wald, or starting from the Basilica of Sonntagberg, you can fully enjoy the magic of the fruit tree blossom.

The Panoramahöhenweg also runs from Waidhofen/Ybbs to Ybbsitz, offering not only a scenic trail along the Upper Austrian Mariazell Trail but also an alternative route via the 1st Lower Austrian Schnaps Route. This path leads past lush meadow orchards tended by schnapps distillers and offers opportunities to sample fine brandies and liqueurs.

Precious natural treasures

From mid-May to early June, a very special natural spectacle can be witnessed in four communities of the Ybbstal Alps, as the daffodils and orchids begin to bloom again. For example, in the center of Opponitz, there is one of these rare display meadows where visitors can admire these increasingly rare treasures. This can be perfectly combined with a leisurely and relaxing hike through the idyllic landscapes in and around Opponitz.

Recharging your energy

Discover the gently hill side of the Ybbstal Alps, which, combined with the fresh energy of spring and the soft, fairy-tale panoramic views, promises an unforgettable experience. For this season, we especially recommend the hiking trails around Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Ybbsitz, and Opponitz.
