Details for: Lunzer See - Obersee - Dürrenstein - Ybbstaler Hut

Brief description

Hike through the Seetal valley up to the summit of Dürrenstein, here opens up a breathtaking 360° panorama.

Description

The path leads past Seehof castle through the Seebach valley towards Obersee. After about an hour you reach Mittersee with crystal-clear spring water. It gets even louder as soon as you pass the 60m high Ludwigfall waterfall and shortly thereafter the “roaring bull”, an underground waterfall! Upon reaching the mystical natural jewel Obersee, you immediately sense that there are still numerous hidden natural treasures to discover here.

The subsequent steep ascent to the Leonhardikreuz near the Herrenalm (temporarily closed) then takes you past the “Großes Schneeloch” (large shaft doline). Shortly thereafter you stand at the Dürrenstein summit (1878 m) with its elaborate Töpper cross.

The summit opens up a breathtaking 360° panorama.

The descent leads over a karst plateau with deep doline depressions and rich alpine flora, covered with krummholz and tall herbaceous plants, to the Ybbstaler Hut.
