Details for: Panorama route Steinkogel Sonnstein

Brief description

Over the Steinkogel viewpoint, further over the Ablasser walls to the Sonnstein. Wonderful view over Hochreit and the Göstling mountain world with benches to rest.

Description

The start is at the Ablass farm, immediately going between house and yard onto a meadow path into the forest. The forest roads are quite overgrown and therefore pleasant to walk. Then comes a stretch on a well-marked path and you reach the Steinkogel (910 m above sea level) with a view over all of Hochreit: Voralpe Gamsstein, Gesäuse mountains, Hochkar…

From Steinkogel you go down on the Wildsattel and up to the right to the panorama route that leads to the Sonnstein (1019 m). Good footwear is an advantage here.

From Sonnstein you now go down the steep forest road past a quarry, then it goes gently back to Wildsattel where we then go down left (in winter the cross-country ski track is groomed here) in switchbacks to the Hochreit road and then back right to Ablass.
