Details for: Pilgrimage on the Eisenstraße

Brief description

Large route through communities of the Eisenstraße and the idyllic small pilgrimage site Maria Seesal. In between, forest and water and also old railway tracks are faithful companions.

Description

The tour starts comfortably downstream on the Ybbstal cycle path via Göstling to St. Georgen am Reith. A short steep climb through the Gulaschwirtin's kitchen leads to the first test of the day, the large Kripp. A short, steep descent including a counter-hill and you are rolling downhill again through the Prolling high valley. After 6 km, turn right towards Gut Theurezbach and ride past it over a small climb on gravel before rolling down to Maria Seesal - a small, tranquil place of pilgrimage with a church.

This is followed by the slightly ascending Zogelsgraben over into the small Erlauftal valley and on to Gaming and the Charterhouse. Last chance for a short rest before you return to Lunz am See via Pfaffenschlag - a very rhythmic climb along the nostalgic "Ötscherlandexpress" train.
