Details for: Pilgrimage on the Eisenstraße

Brief description

Large route through communities of the Eisenstraße and the idyllic small pilgrimage site Maria Seesal. In between, forest and water and also old railway tracks are faithful companions.

Description

The route starts comfortably downstream along the Ybbstal bike path via Göstling to St. Georgen am Reith. A short steep climb through the kitchen of the goulash hostess leads to the first challenge of the day, the large Kripp. A short, steep descent including a counter-hill and then you roll downhill again through the Prolling high valley. After 6km you turn right towards Gut Theurezbach and pass this over a small gravel ascent before rolling down to Maria Seesal – a small, tranquil pilgrimage site with a church.

This is followed by the slightly rising Zogelsgraben over to the small Erlauftal and further to Gaming to the charterhouse. Last chance for a short break before you return over the Pfaffenschlag – a very rhythmic ascent along the nostalgic train "Ötscherlandexpress" – back to Lunz am See.
