Cima Coppi of Lower Austria - a real challenge! The mountain stage into the ski and hiking area with gradients up to 25% on the last two kilometers.
Description
The route starts in Waidhofen an der Ybbs and initially runs flat along the Ybbs to Hollenstein - ideal for warming up. From the village square Hollenstein it goes steadily steeper into the Sandgraben to the crest on the Promau and leads directly past the popular excursion destination Mendlingtal towards Lassing to the start of the ascent to Hochkar.
From the former toll station there are practically no flat sections anymore, only after 3 km the mountain eases a bit for 500 m. The gradient otherwise constantly hovers around 10%, only shortly before the (upper) parking lot at the base station of the Hochkar cable cars does more wind come up again. The last 2.3 km on the summit access road are the hardest with a maximum 25% gradient and another 250 meters altitude to the mountain hut at 1780 m above sea level.
Tip: Upon proof of ascent time (Strava, Garmin, ..) you can collect your deserved medal in gold, silver, or bronze (depending on time) in the gastronomy establishments or at the tourist office.
On the return trip down the valley only the ascent over the Große Kripp (2.5 km, max. 10%) remains to be mastered on otherwise flat to slightly descending terrain.

Author's tip
Pace the climb really well, better to use up unnecessary energy only in the last 2 km. Take arm warmers for the descent!
