Route description The summits of Waidhofen

From the parking lot at the Lokalbahnhof, head over the tracks into a small side street, past a playground and about 300m straight ahead, before turning right into the forest onto a narrow, quite steep hiking trail towards the Lower Chapel. This is reached after a few minutes of walking - continuing moderately uphill and generally keeping right towards the Schwammerlkasten on the Buchenberg. From there, take the high path towards the Upper Chapel, which initially leads moderately uphill with two switchbacks. At the lower hunter's bench, the "Bußweg" turns off to the right - a partly very steep path, including steps, towards the Upper Chapel. Passing the Ötscherblick viewpoint, you reach the upper Buchenberg Chapel at 790m above sea level after about 20 minutes of walking, marking the first of the two summits on this route.

Now descend on a wonderful hiking trail towards the Grasberg inn, but initially, it remains to the right and is bypassed; follow the asphalt road towards Obergrasberg for almost 1km. There you cross a meadow with two cow gates and can then choose between two ascent routes to the Glatzberg summit. Both are similarly steep on a narrow but well-trodden hiking path. Return on the other route and now the inn at Grasberg invites you to a well-deserved rest, before heading back to the Buchenberg, a short ascent to the high circular trail, and then downhill along it towards Hohe Wand. The last meters lead directly past the Nature Park House at Buchenberg, including climbing garden and animal park, as well as a place to stop for refreshments.

A short ascent along the game reserve and a few meters downhill back to the starting point at the Lokalbahnhof.
