Great, varied route with some "tough" climbs through the heart of the Ybbstal Alps.
Description
After starting in Waidhofen, the route initially leads steadily upstream through the Ybbstal valley.
From Hollenstein, the route goes through the wild romantic Sandgraben, 10 km uphill to Promau. The climb is divided into a very gentle lower part (following the creek) and a more demanding upper part. From Promau, there is a wonderful view of the Voralpe and to Hochkar.
After a narrow and winding descent, one reaches the well-known Mendlingtal. Another short "spur" follows before reaching Lassing, then rolling downhill to Göstling past the junction to Hochkar (see route description).
From Göstling, the route follows the Ybbs again to St. Georgen am Reith. Here, there is a sharp right, and the approximately 3 km climb to the "Große Kripp" begins.
This is followed by a short steep descent and another short climb to the "Kleine Kripp," before the circuit leads through the Prollingtal and Ybbsitz for a relaxed finish back to Waidhofen.

Author's tip
In the Ybbstal valley, an alternative to the state road is to use the Ybbstal bike path. Also between Göstling and St. Georgen/Reith.
